THORNHILL Family Day Homes

Family Day Home Program

The Day Home Program offers care for
children of all ages and operates in the
Northeast & Central North communities.
Please contact us to see if we have a
home in your area.

In February 2007, our agency received accreditation status from the Alberta
Association for the Accreditation of Early Learning and Care Services.
Accreditation is a voluntary program which aims to improve quality of care.
It involves a number of rigorous steps which include a self-study which can
take up to 12 months, a site visit and ongoing monitoring. For more
information on accreditation please visit: www.aelcs.ca.

The Day Home Program is governed by Provincial Standards, as well as by policies set by Thornhill Child Care Society’s Board of Directors.

Family Day Home Providers

Our day home consultants carefully choose a family day home provider after
an application and screening process. This involves completing an application
form, obtaining reference letters, police checks and medicals, and undergoing
a minimum of two home screenings to determine whether the home meets our standards of care, safety and suitability.

Providers are self-employed, running their own business. They are contracted
through the agency to provide care in their homes. Our providers must qualify
as per Alberta Government Standards, as well as meet or exceed the guide-
lines set out by Region 3 Calgary & Area Child and Family Services, under
which we are contracted.

Day Home Visits

Each day home is visited on an unannounced basis at least once a month by a
Consultant from our agency. These visits provide direction and support for each
provider, in addition to ensuring that the quality of care is maintained.

Training and Resources

Providers are required to participate in on-going training. This professional development enhances the quality of care that your child will receive in the
home. Providers must also be certified in first aid.

We supply the providers with many resources ranging from craft ideas, field
trip destinations and a toy lending library. We issue a monthly newsletter to
both parents and providers, which is always filled with important information,
resources and upcoming events.

Number of Children

Day home providers can only have a maximum of 6 children under the age of
12 years, including their own, at any time. Of these 6 children, only 3 can be under the age of three years old.
