THORNHILL FAMILY DAY HOMES

Programming

A variety of activities, both provider-directed and child initiated, are encouraged
in the day home program. Programming is flexible in order to accommodate the
children's individual needs, in addition to providing a balance of quiet and active
types of play.

Developmental needs including, social, physical/health, intellectual, creative
and emotional needs are areas that are covered. It is the provider’s role to
facilitate and initiate developmentally appropriate activities and opportunities,
to interact with the children and intervene when necessary, to enrich, extend, reinforce and clarify experiences. Outdoor play is a vital component of development and is encouraged.

Concepts such as sharing, co-operation, transportation, weather, shapes, environment, fitness and sports, letters, family, numbers, safety, nutrition,
and self-help skills are explored on a daily basis.

We ask that providers keep TV viewing to a minimum, and that any shows
watched are developmentally and age appropriate.
